Meet the Females of Comedy!

While The Females of Comedy often take the stage as a troupe, each member is a talented and accomplished comedian in their own right. Follow your favorites or follow them all to catch their next solo performances!

Lydia Carmany is the founder of The Females of Comedy and co-founder of Canton Comedy Boom. Many northeast Ohio comics credit Lydia with the revitalization of the comedy scene in Stark County. She first performed stand up while living in L.A.. When she returned to Canton in 2020, she was dismayed to discover there were no open mics or comedy clubs in the city. Through relentless organizing and fundraising, and with the support of Canton’s creative community, Lydia helped build Canton’s only performance space dedicated to comedy. In addition to creating FOC and CCB and managing the production of dozens of shows each year, Lydia is also a seasoned performer. Her comedy is charmingly awkward, and full of heart-warming stories about growing up in a large, comedy-loving family, post-divorce dating, and a fart joke or two to keep it classy.

K.C. Curry is a Northeast Ohio native and a co-founder of both The Females of Comedy and Canton Comedy Boom. K.C. works regularly with Funny Farm Comedy Club, and hosts several regional open mics. Her work producing, promoting, and hosting a slew of shows has earned the respect of the Northeast Ohio comedy community, and her efforts to nurture budding comics are unrivaled in Stark County. As a comedian, her high energy and animated reflections on love, life, and parenting, always leave the audience in stitches. K.C. is an irreplaceable part of the CCB team and a respected leader in our little comedy community.

Akron native, Kelly Thewlis has performed at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles, Second City in Hollywood, and Comedy Cirque in London. In 2019 she was named Best of Fest comedian at the Live Laugh Comedy Festival. And in 2023 she was a nominee for Cleveland Scene Magazine's Best Female Comedian. Kelly’s talents extend beyond the stage into marketing and promotion and social media management. Her experience and expertise have been fundamental to the success of The Females of Comedy.

G.W. Nell is high energy, bawdy, and self-deprecating with an obscene confidence that makes her a crowd favorite at clubs throughout Ohio and Pennsylvania. GW captivates crowds with her trademark vulnerability and raunchy honesty. She lives for her children, and many of the jokes in her arsenal are a reflection of her nurturing instinct. Many local comics consider G.W. their den mother, and her experience and wisdom were fundamental in the creation of our merry little organization. We are proud to call her a friend of CCB.

Amanda Elam has become a regular in the Akron/Canton comedy scene, and she has crafted some hilarious material that she delivers with a keen self-awareness. Amanda won the Funny Stop Amatuer Contest in 2022, and she has been with The Females of Comedy since the beginning. Among many funny topics, her comedy reflects her experiences as a parent, and the trials and tribulations of “actively but not enthusiastically participating in the dating scene.”

Amy Wyler is a Canton, Ohio native and has been performing standup for fifteen years. She is no stranger to the stage and she enjoys writing, singing, music, acting and painting. Amy crafts fascinating stories and anecdotes with a sincerity that makes her comedy relatable, even when it takes a turn toward absurdity. She is a crowd favorite in Canton and an integral part of the CCB team!

Autumn Carper is an up-and-coming favorite of Canton Comedy Boom’s, and a regular on stages all over Northeast Ohio. Her comedy reflects her rich experience as a teacher and “cool aunt”, and her dark sense of humor and blunt observations have lit up clubs with laughter from here to Las Vegas. In addition to her stellar stand up performances, Autumn has produced and booked her own comedy shows, and we are excited to see what she does next!

Sara Short tested her mettle at an open mic in the summer of 2023, and since then she has hit the ground running. Sara has performed in Canton, Akron, Cleveland, and Columbus. She brings a fresh perspective to the struggles of everyday life with her introspective and observational humor. Sara pokes fun at herself, marriage, aging, and more. Nothing is off limits and her sets have always left the crowd in stitches!
